My partner had been missing genuine and home style Bengali food for a long while. While we regularly obtained foods from the best of the restaurants of Jackson heights, Jamaica, Bronx, none of those options are what Kamala offers. For my partner, its nothing less than having her mom cook food for her. We order food 1-2 days in advances besides ordering items from their daily food menu. Prices are superb while ensuring high quality of ingredients. I always have a concern about quality of meat and fish when I order from a south asian restaurant. This place not only ensures that quality but offers to choose even more premium quality fish. We are truly blessed. Thank you, Kamala! Wish you a great success in your business and have great respects for you to preserve the authenticity of this place by running it yourself even though you as a chef have the potential to introduce a chain of 10s of restaurants. I have one suggestion for items which are ordered in advance, please introduce the concept of organic (grass-fed wherever applicable) meat for additional price. You have a particular niche of making food for customers who care about food quality. This would attract a certain section of clientele who care about such quality metrics. You may be already ensuring these traits in the food. But, it may help even more to be transparent about the sourcing of meat and it being organic/grass-fed etc. I am suggesting it because I have seen some restaurants do the same.","relativeTime":"a month ago"},{"author":"Sriya Sarkar","avatarUrl":"https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocJSfbASvuCpAqvUYVrTYcMWjhmi9ffL-y-lQKmNX2kDZstYCA=s128-c0x00000000-cc-rp-mo-ba2","text":"My parents visited me in the city from Maryland and we trekked all the way out to Floral Park (from Harlem!) just to eat here. We were so glad we did! My parents are from Kolkata, they love and greatly miss the food there. Eating at Kamala Kitchen was such a treat for us because it took us all back to Kolkata. My parents actually think the kochuri and fish fry were better than what they've had back home!\n\nThe seating area is limited but the owners are very lovely and friendly. It felt like we were eating in their home. The food they prepared feels 100% homemade as well.\n\nWe had no hesitation in placing a catering order with them right there in the store for a party. We hope to visit soon again!","relativeTime":"a month ago"},{"author":"Piya","avatarUrl":"https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjWxsp8_FqfeuOcvYnSccPOElOqrcnSoZeuKG29UwmXGXY65RdnJ=s128-c0x00000000-cc-rp-mo-ba4","text":"This place truly captures the soul of Kolkata street food. The kochuri with ghugni was absolutely outstanding, perfectly crisp on the outside, soft inside, and packed with authentic flavors that instantly reminded me of home. The kathi roll was equally amazing, with well-spiced filling and that classic Kolkata-style wrap done just right. We also tried vegetable chop, fish fry, fulcopir singara and everything was delicious. And to finish it off, the rosogolla was soft, fresh, and melt-in-the-mouth, exactly the kind you crave when you’re missing home. Every bite felt nostalgic and comforting. Highly recommended for anyone looking for real, home-like Kolkata food in New York. Sitting area is relatively small but the owner's welcoming attitude is something I appreciate.","relativeTime":"7 months ago"},{"author":"bill d","avatarUrl":"https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjXd-zObrJAypAbUZ2XRiK8_xqmo5UROPniBh6_DwhXvagif3GL_1A=s128-c0x00000000-cc-rp-mo-ba6","text":"We wanted a different meal and that’s we tasted.  Although we’ve been in many areas of India we have never tasted the Bengali cuisine.  We discussed choices with Debjani and he recommended the Luchi & Chholar Dal and the Kochuri & Aloor Dom. Both dishes were very enjoyable. He recommended the Roshogolla for desert and it excellent.  The Resturant is very simple and there are only two tables - seating for 8. Look at the menu - they have a large take out selection for gatherings.","relativeTime":"8 months ago"}],"fetchedAt":"2026-08-20T20:39:25.780Z"}
